Description:
Some zoids were meant to do one thing and do it very well....this is a great design theory but, sadly, sometimes in practice the zoid fails to measure up when circumstances aren't quite right. The Hound Soldier and the Death Cat are perfect examples of this...both designed to perform in a singular role and both exceeding in it. But sadly, both zoids also need help when it comes to operating outside that role. One clever engineer saw this and decided to chip in his two cents by designing the Strike Package, a way to expand the operational limits of both the Hound Soldier and the Death Cat. Oh, and the Shadow Fox? Well, it's just an adaptable little bastard and no one saw a reason not to exclude another source of profit.

The Strike Package is, in essence, a way to give zoids something to do when they otherwise couldn't act effectively. A Death Cat, for example, only has the one little Impact Cannon to use if it's saving the Gravity Bullet. The Hound Soldier is in a somewhat better position with a few more guns but not by much. That's where the Strike Package comes in.

It really is a simple part at the core: two sets of two turrets, one on each shoulder and hip, each turret boasting two weapons. The turrets on the hips each boast a 30mm cannon that, aside from a better than semi-auto firing rate, is normal in all other respects. Mounted just underneath it is a 15mm Pulse Laser that's really just an exact copy of the Small-Bore Pulse Cannons right down to the size and firing rate. Each of the hip turrets can rotate 180 degrees horizontally and 45 degress vertically meaning that they have excellent coverage around the zoid.

On each shoulder there's another turret, capable of shifting 45 degrees vertically and 30 horizontally -- that sports a 50mm cannon -- identical to the smaller 30mm cannons on the hips, just larger -- and a dual mini-rocket launcher just below those cannons. The rocket launchers are, perhaps, the only non-standard thing about the whole package. Rather than relying on fast firing, dumb-fire rocket-bombs the designers decided to go with increasing the probability of a hit over damage. Thus, the mini-rockets were born... except these "mini-"rockets are the same size as normal rockets. So why the designation?

The answer is because the warhead is only half the size of a normal rocket; the extra weight and space was used to actually armor the projectile to a fare-thee-well (relatively speaking) making these projectiles nigh-impossible to shoot down with convetional tactics (ie, shotguns, flak, etc). But, with such a small explosive charge, what's the point of using this, am I right? To deal with that little problem, each warhead was substantially altered into a self-forging anti-armor charge. While it doesn't deal alot of surface damage, these rockets will tear into armor no matter how thick and compromise the integrity of an entire section of armor.... of course damage is relative depending on the armor strength in question but even a Gojulas will know it's been kissed after being hit by two or three of these... But it should be noted that the Strike Package only carries two rocket launchers and therefore two rockets. They can be reloaded at transport, but even with a reload, the pilot only gets four shots through the entire match. So, even if it's unreasonable for your enemy to shoot down the rockets, you still have to make every shot count.

While it's not a magical solution to anyone's problems, the Strike Package does go a long way to fixing things but it still places the burden on the pilots to do what needs to be done.
