There are several zoids that suffer from what is unofficially called Deadborder Syndrome. Deadborder Syndrome did not originate with the Deadborder, but that zoid is one of the best-known examples of it. Essentially, zoids suffering from this Syndrome are geared to fight the opponent in front of them, and nothing else. An opponent that can outmaneuver them can destroy them without any fear of counterattack.

Enter the wonderful world of modifications. Modifications will fix your sorrows, mend your woes, and turn your life into a world of sunshine and lollipops. Or so the salesmen tell us. In any event, however, one modification does fix Deadborder Syndrome, even if only for a few zoids (and, ironically enough, not the Deadborder).

That modification is the Rear Defense Unit. It's a fairly straightforward package. When the mod is purchased, you get two guns. One is an AZ50mm Cannon, meant for making light zoids- and I do mean light- think twice about attacking your rear. It's fairly standard stuff, down to the semiautomatic firing rate. Mounted next to the AZ50mm Cannon is a 10mm AMD Beam Machinegun, meant for repelling missiles, rockets, and unarmored targets. It features a wide spread and high rate of fire, to optimize it for taking down said explosives. Unfortunately, at anything short of point-blank range it's not much good against anything armored.

Now, being meant for rear defense, the entire package obviously points backwards, but it can pivot 90 degrees left or right, plus 45 degrees up or down. The package also includes a video camera, mounted right above the guns, so you can actually see what you're shooting at. Not bad for a mere six grand, is it?
