Name: Myrimdon Assault Package Weapon Type: AZ50mm Cannon and 45mm Pulse Laser Cannon Description: When it comes to inventive solutions most engineers think in terms of adding equipment and weaponry but, at a little backwoods design firm, one engineer instead saw the simplistic beauty of taking something away; specifically the TVS Tactical Missile Launchers from the Iron Kong line. It freed up an enormous amount of space on the Iron Kong as well as a substantial amount of resources in the targeting computer to say nothing of the excess power from the core that was now available to use. While this one engineer chipped in his two cents and pressed for a new offensive system, a small core group saw the advantages to leaving the Iron Kong unburdened by the massive weight of the Tactical Missile Launcher or any other set of weapons. That's not to say they didn't add some additional armament but compared to the what it had before, the Iron Kong looks distinctly under-armed. But, on the flip side, the reduced mass increased the Iron Kong's base speed a full 30 kph and the lessened bulk allows the gorilla to move fluidly and freely, increasing agility and range of motion and elevating the Iron Kong and Iron Kong MkII to a whole new level of performance, allowing it to keep up in melee with zoid such as the Blade Liger. The additional space and power is partially used up by a 50mm Anti-zoid cannon mounted in the right side of the Kong's chest, just below the shoulder. While it can only target zoids to the front, this gun can rotate about 15 degrees in any direction and features a sophisticated gyroscopically auto-stabilized mount that keeps the gun on target even while the Iron Kong moves and fights. Another gun, a 45mm Pulse Laser Gun copied from the Ice Blazer, is fitted to the left side of the cockpit itself, able to fire at whatever the head can point the gun at. Most striking, though, is what was done with the Iron Kong's standard weaponry: the AZ AGM Launcher is mounted in the default position on the left shoulder but the 10-Shot GEP Pod is placed in the empty mounting bracket on the right side of the upper back where it can be used normally, the Guided Explosive Projectiles arcing up and over the zoid to strike targets in front of the Iron Kong. Additonally, the targeting links that usually run to the Tactical Missiles were mated to the GEP Pod, increasing the accuracy of those explosives by a full 10% over and above what their internal guidance systems already do. Finally, in a bid to lobby this modification not only to battling circuit pilots but also to military powers, improved communications gear was installed in some of the extra space. While it may not have much effect in sanctioned zoid battles, this high powered comm gear allows the Kong to break through any sort of jamming signals to teammates and allies within 250 meters, sending them targeting data and simply staying in contact. Unfortunately, even though the Salamander does have a TVS Tactical Missile Launcher, the Myrmidon Assault Package was designed with terrestial zoids in mind and couldn't be readily adapted to an aerial zoid. |
